In the fight for gender equality in the world of sports, tennis leads the way. And yes, we are very proud to say that it is the sport with the smallest pay gap between men and women. The great tennis player Billie Jean (not to be confused with the protagonist of the Michael Jackson song!) spearheaded a campaign in 1973 for the US Open to distribute equal prize money between men and women. Other tournaments followed suit in the early 21st century, with Wimbledon being the last to do so in 2007. Better late than never!
