Davy Jones

Davy Jones is known to many for his role in the third installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga, where he is depicted with the features of sea creatures. He is the captain of the Flying Dutchman, with a crew made up of the souls of dead sailors. In reality, the legend of Davy Jones is very old; the first reference to him dates back to 1726. In the legends told by sailors, he is associated with Davy Jones's Chest, which lies at the bottom of the sea, where lost sailors reside. His name, linked to the chest, carries a negative connotation, a euphemism for death at sea.
