Caganer Venus de Milo

When you find yourself visiting the most famous museum in the most famous capital of Europe, there is a sculpture quite impossible to overlook: the Venus de Milo. Originally from the island of Greece that gives her its name, this statue of white marble and a serene expression embodies the eroticism and the standards of beauty represented by the goddess Aphrodite -Venus to the Romans- but, alas, her arms are missing. There is little to be said for this enigma, and at this point it only adds more mystery to the whole thing. Maybe the Gioconda, a few rooms further, hides the answer behind her whimsical grin...
