The friendly character of the Tió is represented as a wooden log with a smiling face drawn on it. Like the Caganer, it wears the typical barretina (the traditional Catalan hat) and is usually half-covered with a checkered blanket. Legend has it that in December, if you welcome a Tió into your home, the children in your house must be responsible for feeding and watering it every day. Until, on the night of December 24th, if you have taken care of it properly, it will "poop" gifts for the whole family under its blanket by being hit with a stick to the rhythm of a famous traditional song. The Tió symbolizes magic and illusion, as it is the character that, typically in Catalonia, brings the most desired presents for everyone on Christmas Eve.
