THE TRUE STORY OF THE CAGANER

Almost no one knows the true story of the Caganer. Many versions exist, and no one knows for sure what exactly happened, but we know what happened. Would you like us to tell you?

The Caganer, a man of humble origins, a true Catalan peasant, lived many years ago. That's why he's always depicted wearing the typical clothing and accessories of Catalan farmers: the sash and the traditional red barretina.

Juan, as he was called, lived a quiet life in a farmhouse in the countryside. He lived with Vicenta, his good wife, the family dog affectionately known as Quiso, a few chickens, and a cow named Pepita. The farming couple worked their land diligently for their livelihood, but it had been a long time since they had had a good harvest.

FEAR: FOR EVERY PROBLEM, THERE IS A SOLUTION

They were both wondering how they would save their field from utter infertility when an unexpected oversight came to their rescue. It was the day they forgot to leave their cow inside the barn, and she left manure everywhere overnight.

Upon realizing what had happened, the peasant woman tried to fix the mess by burying it in the earth, turning over each enormous pile with her pitchfork. Then, seeing that she had managed to cover everything up, she didn't think much of it.

The two good farmers continued watering the dry field, and the days passed without much hope until one morning they saw the seeds they had planted some time ago begin to sprout again. It was then that the woman confessed what had happened that day.

The farmer clearly saw that this was precisely what they needed to do if they wanted to fertilize their land once and for all. And so he told his neighbors, to help them too bring prosperity to their homes.

Moral of the story: never underestimate a difficulty because, perhaps, it will bring you a benefit if you know how to take advantage of the new situation it brings.
