Did you know that during the Roman and Greek periods a painter was in charge of decorating statues? This job has evolved a lot through history: in the Middle Ages it was considered an artisan work, during the Renaissance the portrait gained more significance and at the present time the word ‘painter’ is used to designate a tradesman responsible for the painting buildings and also the creator who is inspired –artistically speaking– by the world around him and his own feeling and whose intention is to be admired and/or exhibited in museums. Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Da Vinci, Goya, Dalí, Pollock, Klimt... who is next?

CAGATIONS

The logs with the most soul!

The charming character of Cagatió is depicted as a wooden log with a smiling face drawn on it. Like the Caganer, it wears the typical barretina (the traditional Catalan hat) and is usually half-covered with a checkered blanket. Legend has it that, in December, if you welcome a Cagatió into your home, the children in your household should be responsible for feeding and giving it drink every day. Then, on the night of December 24th, if it has been well cared for, it will “poop” gifts under its blanket for the whole family when tapped with a stick to the rhythm of a famous traditional song. Cagatió symbolizes magic and wonder, as it is the character who, typically in Catalonia, brings the most desired gifts for everyone on Christmas Eve.
